A new, New Year!

This time of the year is fresh. The past few weeks and especially this past week after Christmas, I've been going through all of the areas of my house (closets, drawers) deciding what to keep and what to part with. It's been a full throttle project that was very practical in the moment, but looking back, it's been a cleansing time of taking stock of my life as a whole.  It's as if doing an inventory of my physical possessions has helped me also become clear about what intangible things I wish to bring with into the New Year. 

Last night, while catching up with a couple girlfriends for the FSU/ Nortre Dame game (yay noles!)  and today as I ran around town today, getting bagels for our Bagel and Lox/Mimosa New Years morning, I chatted with some girlfriends to wish them a Happy New Year because we will be in the mountains and out of cell service. I noticed a pattern with all of the friends I talked to. Every single one of them has spent the last 2 days IN ACTION. The things that have been "marinating" in their hearts and minds over some time, came into being in the past few days.

-One girl broke up with her boyfriend today. Out with the old boyfriend, to make way for the NEW.

-Another friend and her crush finally confessed their love to eachother. Out with "friends" status to make way for the NEW relationship status.

-Someone else got a NEW haircut and went on a personal shopping spree for NEW clothes.

It's as if every person has their very own purpose of the New Year upon us. The New Year is like a gust of wind that blows a little differently into each persons heart.

For me, in this New Year, I will be become a wife! Our marriage will be born this year! and I feel engaged!!! It's so funny because we have been officially engaged since August 16, 2009, and while this whole time I've felt engaged, now, that it in two days, it will be this year... things feel so exciting. I've waited a long time to feel the hustle and bustle and like it. Last week at Christmas things still weren't clear as to what venue we were getting married at and on what date. But, just yesterday, it dawned on me that this is the birth of our wedding- and it's up to me to get ready! So, instead of asking everyone else what they think will be best.

I asked myself.

And very easily, my self answered.

Finally, my Taurus self kicked into gear and said, "I want this. And that's that." I will go into 2012 with a plan! I will choose!

And so, as we round in on this New Year of 2012, let us bring with us the most valuable things in our life. Here's to a year of things that truly make our hearts happy!

Life in LoDo transmission

Tonite was a bike ride home from work (where I put in my 2 weeks notice- whoa!) where i took time to notice all that passed by in the LoDo, Denver (Lower Downtown) neighborhood. The commuter buses, shuttling everyone home. The little blonde girl peeking through the green, short fence at the downtown playground. The moped driving lady with a red helmet.

Turning onto 17th, my breath drew in, seeing Union Station all decked out for the season. Just as the thought of taking a picture became conscious, I saw this older man with silver hair under his stocking cap, with his wife a few steps behind him, set up with a tripod. He had the same idea as i. I took a quick picture, hoping not to distract him and become noticeable, and kept riding. I rode 3/4 of the block more before I wanted to take another picture, because Union Station is such a landmark; one really knows when they're in Denver when they see Union Station, at least that's my feeling. So, as I stopped for the second time, I notice another guy with a tripod getting the second picture I wanted.

And these two men, I decided, are my soul mates of the day. They too had the same vision as I. We are the only 3 in this great big world that had the same inspiration at the same moment on this 28th day of November, 2011.  To take a picture of the exact way Union Station, with all of her Christmas garb on, looked. And for that, the three of us are soul mates forever in my book.. Because maybe that's what a soul mate is, a partner in life that shares a unique experience on this planet; one that is unique; yet shared. Maybe sometimes it last a few seconds, and with others decades, but still it is intense in it's own right. Perhaps if we have a broader term for soul mate, the world be more humane. Idealistic, yes I know. But maybe it's worth a thought.

Costume Party!

Is there anything quite like waking up on a Sunday morning with the sun filtering through the curtains and you realize that you have absolutely nothing to do today? hardly, especially after a costume party night with friends. We went to a "Vintagey Halloween Party" last evening. oh, the details! candles, skulls and a signature drink so aptly named, "very superstitious." For the first time ever, I went as something dead, and scary-- a zombie bride, using the vintage debutante gown I bought for twenty five bucks at the antique store I worked at in a previous life.  AMC embraced his hippie self and really got into character, sometimes I felt like he wasn't even him! I'd like to tell you more, but my brains are perfectly mushy...which is perfect for laying on the couch watching old episodes of Sex in the City....so, to fill you in, check out these photos from the scenes last night.
