My dearest Lovey Love landed in Denver yesterday with her beau, Jerome. No matter the time its been we get right into our groove and into our doing what we do together. Lovey is now working at a French macaroon bakery in NYC (her shop's macaroons were shown in a gossip girl episode). LL has been telling me about macaroons and most food is my friend , so I did expect to like these little wheels of joy but I had no idea the experience that would ensue. I had no idea that this circular, humble looking treat would transport me to a fantastical realm, right there on my kitchen barstool.
Now, LL and I enjoy the process...if we are to have macaroons (or even french fries for the matter) we will search for a pretty plate to put them on, which leads to brewing tea and, all of the sudden, we are having high tea on china with fresh flowers. All of this build up to trying the macaroons was making me feel butterflies in my tummy. LL put 3 out on the daintiest saucer she could find. All of them pastel colored and perfectly round. We settled on our barstools, took a sip of tea and then the moment came to try a macaroon. How I have made it 28 whole years on planet earth without nibbling one speck is beyond my comprehension.
So many emotions! First, surprise as my teeth bit into and cracked the shell, then, the soothing sweeetness hit my tongue and my mouth smiled with contented joy. And then.......I fell thru the rabbit hole. I was in a garden, a most romantic garden. The smell of rose infused my being, I could feel the velvet petals on my back. I was in a garden and I was inside a rose. Yes, I was inside a rose.
As I swallowed the bite and opened my eyes and I saw LL there smiling with anticipation of my reaction. She said, " I like the rose because it takes me somewhere else." And, sigh, I don't even need to tell her that I think I just had a psycedelic trip experience... she already knows. Yesterday I tripped on a macaroon.
