Self on display

AMC, the Rennaissance man, had a Denver art showing this evening and sold 4 pieces! It takes a lot for an artist, I imagine, or any person for that matter, to put their "innards" on display for the world to see, scope, judge- doesn't it? In a way, it may be like surgery, almost like lying on a table and letting people cut you open.

A heroic act of being true to oneself, creating anything is an act of beauty and boldness. Then, becoming vulnerable enough to show it to others is entirely a new dimension. Because, in sharing it with others, we may, in a sense, be giving apart of ourselves away. Sharing it may be an acknowledgment that the art that one creates is not just for oneself, but for the eventual betterment of others, or others experience of life.
Artists have always served an important part of society, of humanity. Artists portray and expose the inner emotions that we all feel( I think) that don't get talked about in the everyday. With very few life companions do we share the inner space of ourselves. Life in our world is generally structured and comfortable- especially conversations. Very little do we express the inner landscapes with the untamed beastliness that emotions sometimes feel like. Seeing art is like looking into our hearts mirror- perhaps it's a reassurance that 'we aren't alone' we aren't the only one who has felt this way or that. we are ok. we are perfect.

Or perhaps, that others have the same dream that we do- and that somewhere in some space and time- it's all possible.
